Thus says the LORD: If you remove from your midst oppression, false accusation and malicious speech; If you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfy the afflicted: Then light shall rise for you in the darkness. Is. 58:9b-10
Lord, we often get this backwards. We tend to think that our life of prayer and of proclaiming Your word come first. We think that if we have said all our prayers and have read Your word, then we might do some good works and serve others as something “extra.” But here through Isaiah, You tell us that serving and caring for those in need come before we can walk in light. Our service and work to alleviate suffering come before our prayers are answered. Help us to serve those who suffer. Amen.
