“Is this not Jesus, the Son of Joseph?” (John 6:42)

1. 1 Kings 19:4-8
2. Ephesians 4:30-5:2
3. Gospel of John 6:41-51

REFLECTION: Someone close to us can become unappreciated. It seems to happen quite often. Friends are people in touch with us (and vice versa); they understand and appreciate; they sympathize and rejoice; they join us in celebrating our victories and in mourning our losses. The interplay of friendships in our lives—with Jesus, with neighbors, co-workers and others—cannot be taken for granted and allowed to proceed without attention being paid.

PRAYER: Lord, may we imitate you in showing kindness. May we be gracious and thoughtful and look to the small details of other’s needs. Friendship is built out of little things. May we never overlook the tiny opportunities to show care and love. Amen.

To learn more about your faith, read an article or two from a religious magazine or newspaper.

Think today about your friends. What in particular do you do to show them kindness?

At dinner tonight ask the family who they know that has answered the Lord’s challenge to do something for his sake, not their own.

Is there someone in your life that you need to forgive or remember in a special way? What might you do to respond to this need?

Pray with the family today the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary for world peace.

Enjoy nature today. Feel a part of all creation. Thank God for blessing us to share in his glory.

Spirit of Life, with the Father and the Son, you dwell in us. Help us to experience your presence and to share it with others. Make us sources of spiritual nourishment for our brothers and sisters in this world. Amen.
